Real Madrid win 35th La Liga title with four games to spare after victory over Espanyol

Real Madrid have been ruthless in LaLiga this season, winning their 35th LaLiga title.
Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid have won their record-extending 35th Laliga title on Saturday, 30 April. The win made Ancelotti the first ever manager to capture the top five leagues of Europe, winning league titles in Spain, England, Germany, Italy and France.
Madrid routed Espanyol 4-0 on Saturday to confirm their title, after Sevilla drew with Cadiz earlier today.
The 62-year-old Ancelotti has one of the most-decorated CVs in world football when he was lured back to Madrid for a second spell last June following the departure of club great Zinedine Zidane. Real were never considered as title contenders at the beginning of the season, with many believing that the ageing legs of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos were well past their prime.
However, Madrid won the league with sheer domination, 17 points clear of their nearest competition. Benzema, the Madrid talisman, finished the league as the top scorer (26) as well as the top assistmaker in the league (11) and still has four more games to go in the domestic competition.
Benzema has already sounded his bugle, serving a warning to Manchester City who are due to play their second leg of the Champions League semi-finals in the Santiago Bernabeu.
Many have credited Ancelotti and his meticulous planning behind the success. The 62-year old's winning run began with steering AC Milan to the Serie A title in 2004, before triumphs in the Premier League with Chelsea in 2010, Ligue 1 with Paris St Germain in 2013 and Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in 2017 followed.
While winning LaLiga would be considered as a huge achievement for many clubs and managers, for Ancelotti it only signals a job half done.
