RCMP receiving new reports of dangerous driving after vehicle stolen

RCMP on P.E.I. are asking for the public's help Monday morning after receiving new reports of dangerous driving in connection with the theft of a vehicle Sunday.

The black or dark grey Dodge Journey, a type of SUV, was reported stolen from the parking lot of a Needs Convenience store in the Summerside area Sunday afternoon. The owner may have left the keys in the vehicle, said RCMP.

Police spotted the vehicle a number of times on Sunday, around Summerside, Miscouche, and as far west as Wellington.

"The operator of the vehicle has evaded police on several occasions. Police have had to break off pursuit for public safety reasons," said Scott Ferris, senior communications advisor for RCMP.

The SUV has the P.E.I. licence plate 552QN.

The dangerous driving observed included passing vehicles on double solid yellow lines.

"Overnight the operator and the vehicle were not seen, but again early this morning we have started getting reports that the vehicle is operating on Island roads and operating very dangerously," said Ferris.

Anyone seeing the vehicle should not approach it, he said, but should call the local detachment of the RCMP. If the driver is behaving dangerously, call 911.

RCMP are asking for current sightings only, said Ferris.
