Kevin Pietersen is not surprised about Ravindra Jadeja replacing MS Dhoni as captain of Chennai Super Kings, saying that the India all-rounder is an outstanding thinker and a very experienced T20 player.
Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen believes that Ravindra Jadeja is another cool head who will make good decisions as the Chennai Super Kings captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
Pietersen was not surprised by MS Dhoni's decision to hand over the Chennai captaincy to Jadeja and said that the star all-rounder is an outstanding thinker and a very experienced T20 player, so CSK have a good chance of surprising everybody again.
"They've obviously decided that the time is right to move on from MS Dhoni, but it doesn't surprise me that they have turned to Ravi Jadeja another cool head who will make good decisions. Jadeja is an outstanding thinker and a very experienced T20 player, so CSK have a good chance of surprising everybody again," Pietersen wrote for Betway.
Chennai Super Kings said in their statement that Dhoni will continue to represent the franchise this season and beyond. Though the inspirational leader carried on to play the IPL after announcing his international retirement in his inimitable style, his decision to hand over the CSK leadership to Jadeja was not entirely surprising.
Dhoni knew that he couldn't go on forever and the 33-year-old Jadeja, who is at the peak of his prowess, is ready for the challenge. The southpaw was CSK's number one retention before the auction, ahead of Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
"CSK proved everybody wrong last season, including myself. There is some young blood coming through there, but they seem to have realised that having cool, experienced heads making decisions is going to give them an edge over everybody else. There are so many small decisions to make during a T20 match and if you get more right than the opposition, then you will generally win."
