Ravi Shastri on Rohit Sharma’s reaction for missing century at Lord’s in 2021 – He sat quietly on a table
India Today
Rohit Sharma got out to James Anderson in the Lord's Test after scoring 83 runs. He missed the fifth Test after testing positive for Covid-19.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri went down memory lane to the time when Rohit Sharma missed a chance to score a century at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. Back in August 2021, Rohit scored 83 runs at the Home of Cricket and was also involved in an opening-wicket partnership of 126 runs with KL Rahul.
Just when Rohit was looking good to score his maiden overseas Test century, veteran fast bowler James Anderson ran through his defence and rattled his woodwork. Shastri, who was the Indian coach, said that the Nagpur-born batter was devastated and sat quietly on the table inside the dressing room.
“When Rohit got out, he came back to the dressing room and just sat quietly on a table. He was in a daze. He just wanted that hundred. A special feeling for any player to get a hundred at Lord’s. And you could see that he was really, really dejected. But he made up for it at The Oval," Shastri was quoted as saying.
India went on to win the match by 151 runs with KL Rahul being the Player of the Match for his 129-run knock in the first innings.
Later in the series, Rohit made amends by scoring his maiden overseas Test hundred in the fourth Test at the Kennington Oval in London.
India won the match by 157 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the series with Rohit getting the Player of the Match award for his 127-run knock in India’s second innings.
