Ranji Trophy 2022: India U19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull hit a fifty on debut for Delhi against Tamil Nadu on Thursday. All-rounder Raj Bawa, who shone in the World Cup final, picked up a wicket with his first delivery for Chandigarh against Hyderabad.
India U19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull began his first-class career in style, hitting a fifty on his Ranji Trophy debut for Delhi on Thursday at the Baraspara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati against Tamil Nadu. Dhull played a dominant knock, showcasing his class on the big stage as he made it look easy in the morning session of their Elite Group H opener.
Yash Dhull got to his fifty in just 59 balls, hitting 10 boundaries en route. The 18-year-old seamlessly transitioned into first-class cricket as he looked compact and half plenty of time to play his strokes after opening the batting for Delhi in their Ranji Trophy opener.
It was a fine start to Ranji Trophy, which began after a two-year absence, as Dhull lit up Guwahati against a high-quality Tamil Nadu bowling attack. The teenager was severe against poor deliveries from Tamil Nadu bowlers who paid the price for missing mark even by the barest of the margins.

Dhull showcased his composure as Delhi were jolted early, losing Dhruv Shorey and Himmat Singh as early as the 3rd over bowled by pacer Sandeep Warrier. Delhi went past hundred before Lunch with Dhull cruising towards a 3-figure score, rocketing past 70 on Thursday.
Speaking about the inclusion of Yash Dhull in the Ranji Trophy squad right after the teenager's U19 World Cup campaign, head coach Raj Kumar Sharma had said: "He is an exceptional talent, he has shown that in the semifinals against Australia. He is a good future prospect for India."
Notably, Dhull had led India to U19 World Cup glory earlier this month as the India U19 side defeated England in the final in the West Indies. He had hit a match-winning hundred against Australlia in the semi-final.
