Four years after the release of Sanju, Ranbir Kapoor is returning to movies with Shamshera. The actor will be seen playing a larger-than-life hero for the first time in his career. In a recent interview, Ranbir mentioned that he really wished his father Rishi Kapoor was alive to see him in and as Shamshera. The veteran actor passed away on April 30, 2020 after battling with cancer. Coming back to Ranbir's film, it will release in theatres on July 22, 2022.
Speaking to The Times Of India, Ranbir Kapoor said, "I really wish my father was alive to see this film. He has always been blatantly honest about his criticism if he has liked something or not liked something, especially with my work. So, it’s sad that he’s not going to see it. But I am really excited that I got to do a film like this and I hope that somewhere up there he is looking out for me and he is proud of me."
Ranbir further mentioned that he wants a grow as an actor and a star. He believes that Shamshera is a positive step towards that. "You want to make films for a larger audience. You want to tell stories that different generations of the audience can connect to and can get entertained," he added.
After the release of Shamshera, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in Brahmastra with his wife Alia Bhatt. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Dimple Kapadia and Mouni Roy. It has been reported that Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone might have cameo appearances in Brahmastra. The film is scheduled for release on September 9, 2022.
