Before Paresh Rawal stepped in to complete Rishi Kapoor's swan song, Sharmaji Namkeen, the makers toyed with the idea of casting Ranbir and making him look like dad Rishi with prosthetic makeup and CGI. The Brahmastra actor reveals why they dropped the idea.
Rishi Kapoor’s swan song, Sharmaji Namkeen, is a special film. The project has Paresh Rawal stepping into Rishi's shoes to complete the remaining scenes after the veteran actor's demise in April 2020. But before Paresh Rawal became an option, the makers also toyed with the idea of getting Ranbir Kapoor on board, using prosthetic makeup and CGI to make him look like his dad, Rishi Kapoor. However, the idea was later dropped. In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Ranbir Kapoor reveals why.
In an exclusive conversation, Ranbir Kapoor revealed why he didn’t wear prosthetic makeup to become his father, Rishi Kapoor, in Sharmaji Namkeen. Ranbir said, "I remember when I came back from a shooting schedule, we sat together and discussed how we would take this forward. I sent [the makers] some pictures of mine and they sent them abroad to some CGI and special-effects experts [to see] if I could just perform as me and they could digitally enhance it to look like my father. Or do prosthetics. But nothing was working out. That is when they had this great idea of casting Paresh Rawal ji, who is such a fine actor. I have so much love and respect for him that he stepped in to complete this film, to pay tribute to an actor that is my father. He has done it in such a beautiful way that I wouldn’t have been able to do. Everything just turned out well for this film.”
Speaking to IndiaToday.in, Ranbir also revealed that Rishi Kapoor was a hard critic, and once after watching Barfi, he told Ranbir that though he is a good actor, he shouldn't do arty films. Ranbir said, "Dad was a harsh critic. He never appreciated me in my face. I don’t think he understood my choices. He was always worried ki what is he doing. I remember even when he saw Barfi for the first time he called me. I am always nervous when my father called me after a film. He told me 'Haan tu acting achi kar leta hai (You act well) but don’t do arty films next time'."
