In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Ranbir Kapoor spoke about his father's love for cinema. Read his interview inside.
Ranbir Kapoor was extremely close to his dad, Rishi Kapoor. Needless to add, his world came crashing down when his father lost his battle with cancer. Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020. Nearly two years after his demise, the late legendary actor's film Sharmaji Namkeen was released and Ranbir Kapoor promoted it. During an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in. Ranbir spoke about his father's love for cinema.
In an exclusive conversation with us, Ranbir mentioned that whenever his father had a narration, they would spend the entire night just talking about it because of his excitement.
Talking about the first time Rishi Kapoor heard Sharmaji Namkeen, Ranbir said, "He was always so grateful that, even at this age and this stage of his career, he was getting a film where he was headlining the film. He understood he was in a phase in his life where he has to play more character-driven films and he is not the main lead of a film but to get a main lead that really used to excite him so much, and I used to see that gratefulness that I am getting this opportunity and I am going to recognise this and do it to the best of my capability but like a child. I used to feel like a jaded person when I used to see him get excited to play a part. I am not even 10% of it."
As he continued to chat with us, Ranbir Kapoor said his father had a long body of work because of his love for cinema. "That is why he is such a passionate man. He is who he is. He is not going to be different on this interview and different with Hitesh [Bhatia] on set. He is exactly the way he is. He is a passionate actor. He is also a selfish actor. I remember Shakun [Batra] once telling me during Kapoor and Sons after the screening, he used to take Shakun in a corner and said uska scene kyu daala woh kaat, woh boring hai, mera scene vaapis daal de. So, at that stage in his life he was still doing that. That reflects who he is as a person, he is really inspiring," Ranbir said and signed off.
Sharmaji Namkeen was released on March 31 on Amazon Prime Video.
