Rakesh Tikait calls Deep Sidhu’s death ‘tragic’, rules out conspiracy behind accident
India Today
Terming Deep Sidhu’s passing a “tragic incident”, Rakesh Tikait ruled out that there was a conspiracy behind the actor-activist's death and said investigation would throw up further details.
Bharatiya Kisan Union national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait on Wednesday condoled the death of actor and farm activist Deep Sidhu in a car accident and ruled out speculation that a conspiracy was at play.
Terming Deep Sidhu’s passing a “tragic incident”, Tikait told Aaj Tak/India Today, “I don’t believe there was a conspiracy behind [his] death. He was travelling on the highway and it was reported that his car rammed [into a truck] from behind. It seems to be an accident, the rest is a matter of investigation.”
Asked about Deep Sidhu’s alleged involvement in the violence that erupted at the Red Fort during the farmers’ tractor march on January 26 last year, Tikait admitted that it gave the farmers’ agitation a bad rap. He, however, claimed that the actor was taken to the scene by authorities in a bid to implicate the protesting farmers.
“We did not tamper with the tricolor, there was a bare pole and a religious flag was unfurled from it. It was a conspiracy by the government to defame the farmers’ union and the entire movement. Deep Sidhu got caught up in this chakravyuh [trap] of the government,” said Tikait.
