Rajasthan woman thrashed by relatives over suspicion of being witch

A woman in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara was thrashed by her relatives over suspicion of being a witch.
An alleged case of witchcraft has surfaced from Bhilwara district where a woman was beaten up by her relatives over suspicion of being a witch.
The victim was thrashed by her sister-in-law, brother-in-law and their son. The victim’s relatives also alleged that she was the reason behind the death of their son. The incident took place in a village in the Mandal Police Station area. The victim has been admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for treatment.
The victim has also alleged that she, along with her husband, went to the police station but they only got assurance. The police completed their duty by leaving the woman at the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. The victim along with her husband went to the Sakhi Center running in the Mahatma Gandhi District Hospital premises. Sakhi center in-charge Sushila Sharma later admitted the victim to the district hospital, whose treatment is going on.

Sakhi Center in-charge Sushila Sharma said, “A case of harassment and assault has come to the fore by calling the married woman a witch. The report will be given to the Superintendent of Police on behalf of the Sakhi Center”. Describing her grief, the victim said that for the last one year, she had been facing problems only because of relatives calling her a witch and that they were asked to leave the village.
