Rajasthan: Jai Kisan Andolan writes to CM Ashok Gehlot seeking bajra procurement at MSP

Swaraj Abhiyan's Jai Kisan Andolan in a letter to Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot sought the procurement of bajra in the state at the MSP of Rs 2,250.
Jai Kisan Andolan, a part of the Swaraj Abhiyan outfit, has written to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot seeking procurement of bajra at the MSP (minimum support price) of Rs 2,250.In the letter, National President of Jai Kisan Andolan Yogendra Yadav and the national convenor of Jai Kisan Andolan Avik Saha, have argued that bajra farmers have been suffering losses of upto Rs 250 to Rs 450 per quintal in the absence of bajra procurement by the state government."While Rajasthan is the largest producer of bajra, producing half of the total bajra production in the country, there is no infrastructure for procurement of harvested crop in the state," read a statement by Jai Kisan Andolan.ALSO READ: Kharif procurement to begin from Sunday as Centre reverses decision amid protests by farmersIt added that, "Farmers of Rajasthan are compelled to sell their harvest in adjoining states where there is some limited procurement of Bajra. However, a recent policy change in Haryana has closed this door as well. As the Bajra crop has already been harvested, and the produce has started arriving on the market, farmers are now in a perilous situation."
As per the letter, while the comprehensive cost of cultivation of bajra stands at Rs 1,549 per quintal, the farmers are getting between Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,300 for their produce, thus losing Rs 250 to Rs 450 per quintal.ALSO READ: Police use water cannon to disperse farmers protesting outside Haryana CM Khattar's house
