The Congress presidential election is set to be held on October 17, with counting scheduled for October 19.
The Congress Working Committee on Sunday announced dates for the election for the party's full-time president. Soon after, senior party leader Harish Rawat said that Rahul Gandhi will soon be the Congress president.
“Soon Rahul ji will be the president of Congress. All of us party workers hope and request Rahul Gandhi to accept the post of Congress president,” Harish Rawat said on Sunday.
The Congress presidential election is set to be held on October 17, with counting scheduled for October 19.
Rahul Gandhi had resigned as Congress president after the party suffered its second consecutive defeat in parliamentary elections in 2019.
Sonia Gandhi, who took over the reins of the party again as interim president, had also offered to quit in August 2020 after an open revolt by a section of leaders, referred to as G-23, but the CWC had urged her to continue.
