
Rahul Gandhi to be the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha

Rahul Gandhi appointed as Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha by Congress, following unanimous resolution by CWC.
The Congress has announced that Rahul Gandhi, Rae Bareli MP, will be the Leader of Opposition.
CPP chairperson Sonia Gandhi wrote to pro tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab informing that Rahul Gandhi will be the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Congress leader K.C. Venugopal said.
On June 8, the Congress Working Committee unanimously adopted a resolution asking Mr. Gandhi to become the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the 18th Lok Sabha.
Party president Mallikarjun Kharge urged him to “abide” by the CWC’s formal resolution and take up the responsibility. Taking note of the sentiments expressed at the party’s highest decision-making body, Mr. Gandhi said he will think it over and decide “very soon”.

Describing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive under way in Bihar as “an invasive reconstruction of the electoral roll,” Dipankar Bhattacharya, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, said States including Kerala should be on guard as it could be applied in other parts of the country as well.
