India Today
Rahul Gandhi's Nepal visit to attend a friend's wedding has stirred up a controversy. Here's all that has happened so far.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's visit to Nepal has stirred up quite the controversy. While the BJP slammed the visit, Congress is defending it. Gandhi is in Kathmandu to attend the wedding of one of his Nepali friends, Sumanima Udas, who is a journalist.
BJP’S DIG
The controversy started soon after several BJP leaders shared a video of Gandhi partying at a nightclub in Nepal’s Kathmandu. Sharing the video, the BJP leaders highlighted the “chaos within Congress” and said that the Congress politician was busy partying at a time when the Congress-ruled “Rajasthan was burning”.
“Rajasthan burns but RAHUL GANDHI prefers partying over his own party !! He tweets about various crisis in India but prefers bars over Bharat ke log! Rahul is not even a part time politician but a party time politician ! Not the first time .. remember his party mode post 26/11,” tweeted BJP’s Shehzaad Poonawalla.
CONGRESS’S DEFENCE
The Congress, meanwhile, defended its top leader and asked: “What was wrong in it?”
Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala clarified that Rahul Gandhi was attending a friend’s wedding in Kathmandu. He also sharply advised the BJP to focus on issues of import instead of going after the Congress leader for no reason.
