Rahul Gandhi extended his wishes to the nation on Republic Day. He also posted an illustration of the Amar Jawan Jyoti that was merged with the Eternal Flame at the National War Memorial on January 21.
Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted his wishes to the country on Republic Day. He said: "On Republic Day in 1950, our country took the first step in the right direction with confidence. Salute to that first step of truth and equality."

The highlight of his tweet on Wednesday was, however, the picture that accompanied his tweet. It was an illustration of the Amar Jawan Jyoti that was merged with the Eternal Flame at the National War Memorial, barely 400 metres away, on January 21.
The Congress, led by Gandhi, had vehemently protested against the move by the Centre. Rahul Gandhi had expressed his sorrow and disappointment at the move: "It is a matter of great sadness that the immortal flame that used to burn for our brave soldiers will be extinguished today," Rahul Gandhi had said in a tweet.
His tweet on Republic Day, again hinted at his defiance of the Centre's decision. "We will once again light the 'Amar Jawan Jyoti' for our soldiers," Rahul Gandhi had said in a tweet earlier.
