Investigators are working to learn more about how an armed man stormed a synagogue Saturday near Fort Worth, Texas, holding four people at gunpoint in a nearly 11-hour standoff that resulted in the suspect's death and the hostages escaping with their lives.
Malik Faisal Akram was identified by the FBI as the man responsible for taking others captive during a morning service, and the victims were rescued that evening as an FBI Hostage Rescue Team killed Akram, the agency said.
Akram entered Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville as it livestreamed its Sabbath morning service on Facebook and Zoom at around 11 a.m. Saturday, Colleyville Police Chief Michael Miller said. Many people haven't been attending sabbath services in person because of the Covid-19 pandemic, CNN has learned, and the livestream captured some of the standoff before ending.
