Doha: The State of Qatar welcomed the adoption of a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the area, the exchange of prisoners and detainees, the entry of humanitarian aid, the return of displaced persons, reconstruction, and the rejection of any demographic changes in Gaza. Qatar considered this a significant step in the right direction towards ending the brutal war on the Strip.
In a statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar's hope that all parties will commit to implementing the resolution without delay or evasion, especially given the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Strip and the increased risk of escalating violence in the region.
The Ministry stressed the need for intensified regional and international efforts to support a two-state solution and a return to the political process, emphasizing that achieving comprehensive and just peace in the region is contingent upon the establishment of an independent and fully sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
