Qatar's Permanent Representative to UN Elected Chairperson of Legal Committee of 76th Session

New York: The United Nations General Assembly unanimously elected HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, to lead the Sixth Committee as Chairperson of the Legal Committee of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, which will kick off on Sep. 14 of 2021.
In a statement, HE Qatar's Representative to UN expressed the State of Qatar's appreciation and gratitude to the member states for unanimously electing Her Excellency to chair the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly's 76th session, and she thanked the member states of Asia and the Pacific Group (APG) for recommending the candidacy of the State of Qatar to chair the Sixth Committee, as well as all the geographical groups for their support for the State of Qatar's candidacy for this significant position. She stressed that the State of Qatar was keen to run for the chairpersonship of the General Assembly's Legal Committee, given that it is the main forum concerned with legal issues, in addition to the country's firm belief in the rule of law, commitment to international law and its critical role in stabilizing and strengthening international relations, and achieving the goals of the United Nations, whose charter formed the legal basis for the work of the international organization.More Related News
