Doha, Qatar: In a prestigious accolade for architectural marvels, Qatar National Library has been hailed as one of the most exquisite libraries globally, earning its place on AD Middle East’s coveted list of 17 most beautiful libraries.
Qatar National Library named, in the fourth place of “The 17 Most Beautiful Libraries in the World” list, has been described as “mesmerising.”
According to AD Middle East “The visual (and emotional) impact is mesmerising: it suddenly feels as though you are surrounded by all the books the 138-metre-long library has to offer.”
The Qatar National Library designed by Rem Koolhas resembles two pieces of paper that are pulled apart and folded diagonally at the corners to create a shell-like structure, enclosing the open-plan interior. This concept gives the building a striking and memorable appearance.
The architecture incorporates cutting-edge technology and sustainability features. For instance, the library roof is designed to minimise solar heat gain while allowing natural light to filter through, creating a comfortable and energy-efficient interior environment.
