Qatar congratulates Sudan on rights council membership

Vice President and Secretary General of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri has called for providing the necessary support to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) by the transitional government in Sudan. He also congratulated the First Vice President of the Transitional Sovereign Council and Commander of the Rapid Support Forces Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo on the election of Sudan as a member of the Human Rights Council for 2021 as a representative of the African group. This came in the meeting held on Monday between Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and Dr al-Marri at the headquarters of the transitional government of Sudan. Dr al-Marri praised Sudan's joining of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, renewing his welcome of the decision to establishing an steering committee for the national human rights commission, and GANHRI's commitment to support Sudan in all aspects related to human rights.
