Qatar Chamber second vice-chairman Rashed bin Hamad al-Athba held a meeting with Ranil Jayawardena, the UK’s Minister for International Trade, and his accompanying delegation. During the meeting, both officials discussed commercial and investment relations between Qatar and the UK and ways to enhance them, especially at the level of the private sector. Al-Athba elaborated on Qatar Chamber’s role in boosting co-operation relations between Qatari and British businessmen and companies and stimulating the business sectors to establish commercial alliances and partnerships. He lauded the close commercial relations between both countries, noting that Qatar-UK bilateral trade exchange amounted to £3.7bn in 2021 compared to £2.4bn in 2020, recording a 50% increase. Jayawardena also lauded the distinct relations between both countries, especially in the economic and trade fields. The minister pointed out that he is looking forward to achieving more cooperation between the business sectors of both countries. He also called on Qatari businessmen to invest in the UK, stating many investment incentives, especially for long-term projects.
