The Uttar Pradesh government will resume procurement of maize and millet in the state. The procurement of maize will be done in 24 districts, and millet in 18 districts of the state.
The government has fixed the MSP for maize at Rs 1,962 and that of millet at Rs 2,350 per quintal.
With the government procurement of maize and millet, the farmers are expected to compete to grow maize and millet.
Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi said in a press conference at Lok Bhavan that the production of millet in the state is 21.60 lakh metric tons and 24 lakh metric ton of millet production is estimated.
He said that the offered price will help the farmers to get a good price for their crop and at the same time will also encourage farmers of producing more maize and millet.
The agriculture minister also announced that the UP government will soon constitute the Uttar Pradesh Natural Farming Board as the government is promoting natural farming.
"CM Yogi said that we will give the market if you grow crops from natural farming. A high-level study team will go to Kurukshetra in Haryana for natural farming between September 28 and 30, this study team will understand the methods of natural farming there", he added.
