CM Bhagwant Mann has urged Punjab private schools not to hike fees or make kids buy school items from specific stores.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday urged all private schools not to raise fees or force children to buy books, uniforms, or stationery from specific stores just days before the new academic session begins.Mann stated that parents wanted to provide their children with education, but that it had become prohibitively expensive.
"Today, I am going to announce two big decisions which our government has taken related to the education sector," said Mann before making the announcements in a video message.
"No private school in Punjab will hike fees this semester when new admissions take place," said the Punjab CM, as per PTI.
He claims that no private school in the state will force students or their parents to buy books, uniforms, or stationery from a specific store.
He stated that private schools will be required to reveal addresses of all shops providing stationery, books, and uniforms to students and their parents.
"It is up to parents from where they want to purchase these items for their children," Mann said. He said the decisions would come into force with immediate effect.
A detailed policy in this regard would be issued soon, he said.
