The Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the arrest of former AAP leader Kumar Vishwas in the case of making inflammatory statements against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
In a relief for former Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday stayed his arrest in the case of making inflammatory remarks against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The court has fixed July 4 for next hearing.
Ahead of the Punjab assembly elections, Vishwas had accused Kejriwal of supporting separatists. In a video by the Bharatiya Janata Party released, Kumar Vishwas alleged that during a conversation some years ago, Kejriwal told him that one day, either he [Kejriwal] would become chief minister of Punjab or the first Prime Minister of an independent nation [Khalistan].
A case was filed against Vishwas against him at Rupnagar police station by the Punjab Police on April 12. The case was filed under Sections 153, 153A, 505, 505 (2) , 116 read with Section 143, 147, 323 (assault), 341 (illegal confinement), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
On April 20, the Punjab Police visited the former AAP leader's house in Ghaziabad and summoned him for questioning.
Vishwas had moved the high court last week, seeking quashing of the FIR registered against him.
