Punjab: 5 killed, 2 missing after car falls into Bhakra canal; investigation underway

Around five people from a Rajasthan doctor's family have lost their lives and two children were feared washed away after a bus hit their car and they fell into the Bhakra canal in Rupnagar district, Punjab.
A trip to the mountains turned into a nightmare for a Rajasthan doctor's family when they met with a gruesome accident in the Rupnagar district of Punjab while returning to their home.
Out of seven people travelling in the car, five died, while two were feared washed away as the car collided with a private bus and fell into the Bhakra canal.
The victims identified as Dr Satish Poonia, who was an orthopaedic doctor at a government hospital in Reengus in the Sikar district of Rajasthan, his wife Sarita, a school teacher, their son Raja, brother-in-law Rajesh and his wife were killed in the accident.
The police were successful in recovering five bodies after a three-hour-long rescue operation.
They have launched a search to look out for both the girls who have gone missing after the accident.
SHO Vijay Kumar said that a case has been registered under section 304-A of the Indian Penal Code regarding the accident. The bus driver had been absconding from the spot after leaving the bus.
