Pune Metro sees footfall of 2.5 lakh commuters, earns Rs 35 lakh revenue in nine days

The Pune Metro has attracted 2.5 lakh commuters and earned Rs 35 lakh revenue within nine days of its launch. The Pune Metro rail was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6.
Days after its launch, the Pune Metro rail has attracted as many as 2.5 lakh commuters earning Rs 35 lakh in revenue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pune Metro rail project on March 6 to provide world-class infrastructure for urban mobility. Built at a cost of Rs 11,400 crore, Pune Metro services received a positive response from the residents within nine days.
"The Pune Metro rail service is getting a tremendous response from citizens. There have been over 2.5 lakh passengers on the Metro rail since its launch. The fare revenue collection has been over Rs 35 lakh in last nine days since launch on March 6,"Hemant Sonawane, spokesperson for Pune Metro rail, told the Indian Express. (sic)
The metro service has received a good response from all age groups and many have also taken to social media to share their experiences, he added.
As of March 14, the total ridership was 2.27 lakh commuters and the total revenue was Rs 32 lakh.
Pune Metro rail service has been implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha-Metro). The 12-km-long route inaugurated includes two priority stretches -- Garware College to Vanaz (5 km) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Phugewadi (7 km) -- on two metro lines.
The Metro rail undertakes 27 rides on a daily basis on both stretches at a gap of half-an-hour.
MahaMetro has now set a target of completing 33.2 kilometres of Phase-I by the end of this year and it has targeted the stretch from Phugewadi to Shivajinagar.
