The bidirectional Nal flyover on Karve Road in Pune will be opened for vehicular traffic on Sunday. The flyover is a part of a double-decker facility in which the Metro viaduct is placed on top and a vehicular flyover below it.
A week after the metro began on this route, the bidirectional Nal flyover on Karve Road in Pune will be opened for vehicular traffic on Sunday.
According to a report published in The Times of India (TOI), the flyover is a part of a double-decker facility in which a Metro viaduct is placed on top and a vehicular flyover below it.
It will ensure smooth movement of vehicular traffic towards Kothrud and Deccan Gymkhana, without having to halt at Nal Stop chowk.
The Pune Municipal Corporation contributed Rs 30 crore while the Maha Metro contributed Rs 26 crore towards the construction of the flyover.
Work on the flyover commenced in early 2019. The total length of the flyover is 550 metres with ramps at both ends. The vehicles coming from Law College Road and Mhatre Bridge at the Nal Stop chowk and heading towards Karve Road can make use of the facility.
“The flyover will be inaugurated and made available for traffic on March 13. The work related to street lighting is in its final stage,” said Murlidhar Mohol, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
“Once the flyover is operational, it will help manage traffic heading from Deccan to western Pune. At Nal stop, 35,000 to 40,000 vehicles pass every hour during peak hours, so it is important to have a flyover on this stretch. The flyover will also provide easy passage to commuters who want to go to Haveli and Mulshi taluka,” Mohol added.
