India Today
Prosenjit Chatterjee will be seen next in Srijit Mukherji’s Kakababur Protyaborton. In an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, the Bengali superstar talked about the OTT revolution.
Whether OTT will overtake theatre screenings is a debate that only the future will tell. However, a fact which cannot be denied is that OTT platforms are here and being loved by the audiences. Speaking exclusively to IndiaToday.in, Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee shared his views on the OTT revolution. As per him, it has broken regional barriers.
Prosenjit Chatterjee's upcoming release is director Srijit Mukherji’s Kakababur Protyaborton or The Return of Kakababu. The adventure drama is based on a Bengali adventure novel by Sunil Gangopadhyay titled Jongoler Modhye Ek Hotel. It is slated for a theatrical release on February 4. Kakababur Protyaborton will have an OTT release two months after its theatrical release. It is the third installment of the Kakababu series after Mishawr Rawhoshyo and Yeti Obhijaan, produced by Shree Venkatesh Films.
Sharing his thoughts on OTT boom, Prosenjit Chatterjee said, “Suppose you are watching a film or series on an OTT platform, and you get impressed by an artist. Then you can go and search about the artist, which will lead you to more content featuring the artist." This is surely a plus point for every artist out there.
Even with a huge audience belt, the Bengal market has few known indigenous OTT platforms, like Hoichoi and Addatimes. The question arrived about what would be the future of indigenous platforms in West Bengal.
"West Bengal has a few OTT platforms which are doing very well. Yes, in comparison to the pan-national sphere, we are a bit behind but we are making some fantastic content for web. I am hopeful that big national OTT players will come to Bengal, as Bengali is the 6th largest language spoken in the world and that has to be noted and turned into a business" said Prosenjit Chatterjee.
