Some progressives are raising concerns about a 2009 sentence handed out by potential Biden Supreme Court pick J. Michelle Childs in which she a sent man to prison for 12 years for a nonviolent marijuana charge.
The American Prospect, a progressive publication, reported Thursday that when Childs was a county circuit judge in South Carolina, she sentenced a man named William Roy Goodman to 12 years in prison for a half pound of marijuana.
Goodman was caught on hidden camera selling marijuana to an undercover police officer, according to the Prospect. He pleaded guilty to a host of charges, expecting a sentence up to five years given that he was a repeat offender.
