Celebrities like Priyamani, Mamta Mohandas and Boney Kapoor speak spoke about the ongoing language debate. They were seen gracing the IIFA 2020 green carpet.
This year the International Indian Film Festival awards (IFFA) are being held in Abu Dhabi. The Awards show this year is seeing a wide representation including actors from the South Indian film industry making their green carpet appearances. From Family Man star Priyamani to Mamta Mohandas, it looks like IFFA this year is all about celebrating Indian cinema, blurring the lines and the ongoing Hindi Vs South debate. In fact, at the green carpet, actresses Priyamani and Mamta spoke about the language debate and reiterated the importance of coming together as one nation. Apart from them, producer Boney Kapoor too spoke about the debate.
Mamta Mohandas told IndiaToday.in, "Due to OTT platforms, films are now available in multiple languages. It is time for us to be one nation before we fight with other nations. We are all one. It is a beautiful time to change for India. More than that, women are changing. When you speak about South representation at IIFA, I was not aware that not many South performances happened at IIFA earlier but I think that is also changing."
Priyamani mentioned, "All I will say is that it is better late than never. We are Indian cinema and, for the longest time, we were segregated into North and South. Right now, it is turning global. Artists are being appreciated everywhere."
The duo also spoke about more South representation at IIFA in its 22nd edition.
Boney Kapoor added, "I have acquired rights for all language films. Language is not an issue, good cinema is. Cinema has no language."
Meanwhile, superstar Salman Khan will be hosting the event this year. Shahid Kapoor, Nora Fatehi, Divya Khosla Kumar, Ananya Panday, Abhishek Bachchan among others will be performing at the star-studded event.
IIFA 2022 was earlier scheduled to take place in May but was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
