The primary schools in West-Bengal reopened today after nearly two years.
Almost 50,000 government and private primary schools in West Bengal reopened today after a gap of almost two years for physical classes while maintaining Covid-19 restrictions.
According to available statistics, approximately 80% of students attended each school, said a school education department official.
The official said further, "Students turned up in large numbers and the school authorities tried to adhere to all Covid-19 protocols by accommodating 20-30 students in each classroom if the average number of pupils is 50-60."
The compounds of various schools were filled up with shrubs and bushes due to not being in use for the past 23 months and were cleaned after the government permitted elementary schools to reopen.
Kartik Manna, chairman of the Kolkata District Primary School Council, said that physical classes were held in roughly 2,000 schools around the city, with strong attendance.
He added, "The interiors and furniture were cleaned. A midday meal was cooked in the school compound after a long gap. Teachers and guardians were both enthusiastic."
Ganesh Das, an autorickshaw driver, said that his daughter was overjoyed to meet her teachers and friends after a long time.
