A school in President Droupadi Murmu’s native village in Odisha was among the first places in India to live test 5G services.
A school in President Droupadi Murmu’s native village, Pahadpur village, in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj was among the first places in India to live test 5G services in the first phase on Saturday.
Until a few days ago, the outskirts of Pahadpur village had no electricity connection. However, after Droupadi Murmu became the first tribal woman president of the country, the fate of the remote village in the tribal belt of Mayurbhanj changed.
The SLS Memorial Residential School, built by Murmu in memory of her departed husband, Shyam Charan Murmu of Pahadpur village under Kusumi block, was among the four locations in four states selected for the live use case demo of the latest cellular 5G technology launched on Saturday by Prime Minister Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the first phase of 5G Services in 13 cities across India in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, on Saturday. The launch took place during the four-day technology festival, India Mobile Congress (IMC).
The new technology will provide seamless coverage, high data rate, low latency and highly reliable communications as compared to 4G technology.
The happiness and excitement of students of SLS Residential school and villagers had no bounds as soon as the Live 5G test was launched at the school campus.Ahead of the launch, elaborate arrangements were made at SLS Residential school in President Murmu’s ancestral village. Television monitors were fixed separately for students, villagers, and visiting guests. A tower connected with 5G fibre optics was installed by Jio for the live demo of the launch.
