A tribal woman who went into labour in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district gave birth on a makeshift stretcher while being taken to the ambulance. This has exposed the lack of basic facilities, including lack of motorable roads, in Andhra Pradesh’s tribal areas.
A pregnant tribal woman in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district gave birth to her baby on a makeshift stretcher while being taken to an ambulance which was parked outside their village due to lack of road connectivity.
People in the tribal areas of Andhra Pradesh are suffering from severe basic facilities, including lack of motorable roads. The incident has once again exposed the pathetic condition of tribal areas in Andhra Pradesh. This is not the first time when a pregnant woman or sick people were shifted to hospital using doli in the districts of north Andhra Pradesh.
On Sunday, Nirmala, a tribal woman from Kerasingi panchayat of Guda village, suffered labour pains. The family immediately decided to get her shifted to the nearest health centre for delivery.
An ambulance was called to the village, but due to lack of road connectivity, it was parked away from the village and waiting for her to arrive. Relatives prepared a doli (makeshift stretcher) to take Nirmala to the ambulance.
However, the woman, who was suffering from labour pains, was not able to hold on, and eventually gave birth to the baby while being carried amid hilly and forest terrain to the ambulance.
She was later shifted to the Primary Health Care (PHC) centre at Parashurampura with the help of an ambulance. Both the mother and the child are in healthy condition.
