Angered by a fee hike, Allahabad University students on Saturday took two professors hostage for three hours in the Pro Research Council department of the university.
After intervention, the Uttar Pradesh Police took around 20 students into custody. The police dragged the protesting students and put them into the van.
Angry students took Professor Ashish Saxena, and Professor Manmohan Krishna hostage in the FRC department and demanded withdrawal of the fee hike. The students said that the professors would be kept hostage like this until the fees hike order was taken back.
After this, the police intervened in the administration but the matter did not work. The students were constantly creating a ruckus in the university and that’s when the forcibly dragged them and brought them out.
According to SP City Santosh Kumar Meena, the students who were filled in the police van were constantly demanding to withdraw the fee hike. He also denied any professor being taken hostage but said that the students were detained because they had blocked the road.
Notably, the students are protesting against the 4-fold increase in fees in the university. Students are sitting on hunger strike for about 26 days. A case has been registered against the students who are detained and more than 200 unknown students.
