Prabhas, Allu Arjun fans go to war on Twitter. Reason: India Today Magazine cover
India Today
It's Allu Arjun fans vs Prabhas supporters on Twitter. Who wins? Well, Indian cinema, of course.
Prabhas or Allu Arjun - who is a bigger star? Well, if you were to scroll through your Twitter feed, you'd most likely find fan clubs of both actors trying to settle exactly this, but this time, over the latest India Today Magazine cover. The July 2022 issue of India Today Magazine saw Allu Arjun bringing his 'South Swag' on the cover and fans of the Icon Star were naturally floored. Soon, the particular cover photo of Allu Arjun went viral. And just then, some Prabhas fan clubs started sharing an old India Today Magazine cover (May 2017), featuring the Baahubali actor, on Twitter. Result? A full-blown Twitter war over which cover is better and which star is bigger. Do we have the answer? Well, read on:
The Allu Arjun cover of India Today Magazine July issue has created waves across social media ever since its release. Fans of the superstar showered the cover with love and flooded the comments section with heart and fire emojis as soon as the cover image was shared by him on Instagram. However, it also soon gave rise to a fan war on Twitter. That's right. Locked in battle this time are fans of two of the Telugu film industry's - and the nation's - greatest present-day superstars: Allu Arjun, who made a mark among the Hindi audiences with his impressive performance in Pushpa: The Rise, and Prabhas, who broke into the big league with Baahubali in 2015 and retained the stature with its sequel in 2017.
After India Today Magazine released its latest issue on July 15, titled The South Swag featuring Pusha star Allu Arjun, Prabhas fans dug up a 2017 India Today Magazine cover titled Epic Blockbuster, featuring the Baahubali star and drew up comparisons to call it 'more organic'.
Naturally, Allu Arjun fans were not happy about this. Meanwhile, the Pushpa actor's team claimed that Prabhas' PR team is 'deliberately reviving the older magazine issue' to counter the traction the Allu Arjun cover is gaining online.
Speaking exclusively to Shiv Aroor on India Today Television, actor Kasturi said that 'these things keep happening' and mostly because 'one side is more radical, more vociferous than the other and they make it sound like they are representing the entire fanbase of the actor'. In reality, the two are very good friends.
She said, "As far as the fan wars are concerned, these things keep happening. If you think about it, Allu Arjun comes from a very well-known film dynasty and so does Prabhas. Prabhas is the nephew of Telugu actor Krishnam Raju. And they are the best of friends, and not just them, even Mahesh Babu, Ram Charan, and the likes. Telugu movie stars are extremely cordial with each other, there is no animosity between them, which is why a film like RRR is possible, where two of the biggest stars - Ram Charan and Jr NTR - come together and are cooperating with each other. The star wars happen because one side is more radical, more vociferous than the other and they make it sound like they are representing the entire fanbase of the actor."She also went on to commend India Today for the cover and called it a win for Indian cinema. "We are super happy to see that times have changed in India. From being a nationwide audience for the Khans and Roshans, we are now talking about the Yashs and the Prabhases, and pan-India heroes. It is a matter of pride for Indian cinema that Tamil and Telugu cinema has come of age and has been recognised all across the nation. Thank you, India Today for the lovely cover story," she said.
