Thousands of Nova Scotia Power customers were without power in the Porters Lake, N.S., area Thursday morning as police responded to a report of a man barricaded inside a home.
The RCMP said in a post on X at 7:13 a.m. that officers were at a home in the 1300 block of West Porters Lake Road, where a man who was believed to be armed was inside.
Police said there was no one else inside the home and no immediate threat to the public, but they were asking neighbours to stay inside their homes as a precaution.
The RCMP also closed West Porters Lake Road between Greenough Drive and Capri Drive and were asking motorists to avoid the area.
At 9:30 a.m., the RCMP said the power had been turned off in the area due to the police operation. Nova Scotia Power also confirmed there was an emergency outage in the area “at the request of first responders.”
Shortly after 10 a.m., Nova Scotia Power said the power had been restored to the area, and police said West Porters Lake Road would reopen as soon as possible.
Police have not released any additional details at this time.
