Posters emerge in Chennai, Theni calling for OPS to become AIADMK’s ‘single’ leader

A day after AIADMK leader Jayakumar said that cadres were seeking ‘single’ leadership in the party, posters have emerged in Chennai and Theni districts calling for O Panneerselvam to take up the role as AIADMK’s sole leader.
Posters seeking AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvan to become the ‘single’ leader of the party have emerged in Chennai and Theni districts. This comes a day after senior leader Jayakumar told IndiaToday that the call for a 'single' leader had arisen in the AIADMK.
With AIADMK set to hold the general body and executive council meeting on June 23, the party’s senior leaders held a meeting yesterday at the headquarters where slogans were raised seeking 'singular' leadership.
After Jayalalitha’s death, the post of general secretary was removed. It was replaced by OPS, who was chosen as coordinator, and EPS, chosen as joint coordinator.
“The majority of the party men and district secretaries are seeking single leadership now,” confirmed Jayakumar to IndiaToday, but didn’t want to reveal whether it would be Edappadi Palaniswami or O Panneerselvan.
Another round of meetings was held at the residence of OPS on Tuesday night. Based on party sources, it turned ineffective as OPS allegedly was not ready to agree to the ‘agenda’ yet.
Meanwhile, posters in favour of OPS being chosen as the single leader of the AIADMK have been put up in Chennai and Theni districts. This could mean that OPS is not ready to give up the fight yet.
