Posters against Namakkal MP for not participating in voting against Waqf Bill in Parliament
The Congress party pasted posters against Namakkal MP V.S. Matheswaran for not participating in the voting on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 in Parliament. Meanwhile, a fire was reported in the MP’s house on Thursday.
On behalf of the minority wing of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), Namakkal East District, posters were pasted across the district on Wednesday. In the posters, the TNCC minority wing claimed that the MP betrayed the DMK that gave its symbol to him, the INDIA alliance, and Muslim voters who voted for him. By not participating in the voting against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025, the MP did not perform his duty and he must resign. As these posters were pasted across the district, it created confusion among the cadres of the INDIA alliance.
Mr. Matheswaran told reporters that he could not participate in the voting as he was unwell. “All (alliance partners) know the reason. I will participate in the protest organised by the All Muslim Jamaat against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill on April 13 in Namakkal,” Mr. Matheswaran added.
Meanwhile, in the early hours of Thursday, due to an electric short circuit at the MP’s house at Pattinam near Senthamangalam, where his mother was staying alone, a fire was reported. On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire in which an AC machine, fans, and switch boxes were damaged.
Information spread and some media reported that a molotov cocktail was hurled at the MP’s house. But in a release, the Namakkal District police denied these claims and said it was a fire accident and warned stern action against people spreading rumours.
