Five N.W.T. communities are heading to the polls on Monday.
Elections are being held in Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Hay River, Inuvik and Norman Wells.
Each municipal council serves a three-year term, with most made up of a mayor and eight councillors, except in Norman Wells (made up of a mayor and six councillors).
Some council members already have their positions secured. In Hay River, Kandis Jameson was acclaimed to a third term as mayor. In Fort Simpson, all eight councillors were acclaimed.
In Fort Smith and Fort Simpson, a current councillor is looking to take over as mayor against the incumbent. In Inuvik, both candidates have previously served as mayor.
Finally, in Norman Wells, current mayor Frank Pope is seeking re-election against former MLA Paulie Chinna.
