Political showdown in Jahangirpuri as police stop opposition leaders from meeting families
India Today
Leaders of the Samajwadi Party, the Trinamool Congress and the CPI were stopped from meeting the families whose homes and shops were razed to the ground by bulldozers in Delhi Jahangirpuri after the Hanuman Jayanti clashes.
Delegations led by the Samajwadi Party, the Trinamool Congress and the CPI were stopped from meeting the families whose homes and shops were razed to the ground by bulldozers in Delhi Jahangirpuri after the Hanuman Jayanti clashes.
CPI’s D Raja, who was in Jahangirpuri, said, “We came here to share the pain of families, to stand in solidarity with them. Who is the BJP to define what we are doing?” The CPI delegation refused to leave without meeting the families.
“The police stopped us, saying it is a matter of law and order. We are not creating a law and order issue. Amit Shah should be questioned about law and order. How were bulldozers allowed to carry on the demolition despite the Supreme Court’s order?” D Raja asked.
“Is it the Republic of India or the bulldozer of India?”

A five-member Samajwadi Party delegation was also stopped by the Delhi Police.
Speaking to India Today TV, Samajwadi Party MP ST Hasan said, “We are here to meet the families but the police are not allowing us. We are not going to create any law and order issues. Why was this place targeted? Encroachments are there in several parts of Delhi. Why aren't they acting there? The parliament has passed a law to stop such drives till 2023. The Delhi Police didn’t listen to the Supreme Court. “Might is right” is their approach.”
