The gang-rape of a differently-abled woman in Andhra Pradesh gained political overtones after TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and state women’s commission chairperson V Padma clashed while visiting the victim.
A verbal altercation erupted between supporters of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Andhra Pradesh women’s commission chairperson V Padma while visiting a 23-year-old gang-rape survivor in hospital.
Padma has issued a notice to Leader of Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu for "outraging and insulting" her modesty.
Naidu went to the Old GGH in Vijaywada on Friday where the differently-abled victim was admitted. At the same time, V Padma, appointed by the ruling YSR Congress, also arrived to meet the young woman.
Initially, Leader of Opposition Chandrababu Naidu was not permitted to meet the victim. But when Padma arrived, she was allowed entry to the victim’s room. This led to a commotion, as TDP supporters objected to the snub to their party leader. They raised slogans against Padma right in front of the victim.
According to reports, Padma and Naidu exchanged heated words and TDP leader Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao also joined in.
