A 26-year-old man is facing a number of charges, including impaired driving, after two people were killed in a crash in Elgin County Saturday night.
Police were called to the scene on Richmond Road between Malahide Township and the Municipality of Bayham, just south of London, close to 9 p.m. for a two vehicle collision.
Ontario Provincial Police said two pickup trucks were travelling northbound when one left the road, entered the ditch and rolled over several times, ejecting the driver and passenger. One person was pronounced dead at the scene while the other later died in hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Neil Banman, 26, from Chatham-Kent and Peter Harder, 29, from Aylmer.
A third person who was located in the truck was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The driver of the other pickup truck, a 26-year-old from Malahide Township, has been charged with two counts each of impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop at an accident resulting in death and operation over 80 causing death.
OPP said speed, alcohol and a lack of seatbelts are being considered as factors in the crash.
