Police investigating blaze at United Supermarket on Adelaide Street as suspicious

London Police have deemed a Friday morning fire at the United Supermarket on Adelaide Street North as suspicious in nature.
Firefighters were called to the supermarket at about 5:20 a.m. for a fire which spread to the back wall of the grocery store.
"Fire crews arrived on scene and realized a stack of shipping skids along with bales of cardboard that were on fire," said Platoon Chief Gary Mosburger. "It was a very significant fire that was actually impinging on the back of the building."
Additional units were brought in and the fire on the exterior wall was quickly put out, Mosburger said.
"We did forced entry into the building to ensure that no additional fire spread had gone into the building."
About 20 firefighters were involved in putting out the fire.
The fire didn't affect the inside of the building, said manager Kevin Liu, but police have taken over the investigation because there are suspicious elements to it.
Police say they've assigned the fire investigation to members of the London Police Street Crime Unit, which is being assisted by the Ontario Fire Marshal.
"We have cameras all over so we have given the videos to the police," Liu said.
The large amount of cardboard created hot spots that had to be spread out over the back parking lot of the property and eventually removed with a back hoe.
There is no estimated cost in terms of the damage the fire caused, police said in a media release.
