The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has reportedly submitted a memorandum requesting action against Amazon. The organization also claimed that the painting was also available on the website of Exotic India under the Janmashtami sale.
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened to an e-commerce platform. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Bengaluru has filed a complaint against one of the most popular e-commerce platforms in the country, Amazon. The complaint has been filed in Bengaluru’s Subramanya Nagar police station. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has reportedly submitted a memorandum requesting action against the e-commerce giant. The organization also claimed that the painting was also available on the website of Exotic India under the Janmashtami sale.
HJS Karnataka also took to Twitter to talk about the matter. In a tweet, an organization said, “Members of @HinduJagrutiOrg submitted a memorandum to the Police Inspector, Subramanya Nagar Benguluru, requesting action against @amazonIN for selling obscene painting of Lord Krishna with Radha on their website.”
Hashtags like #BoycottAmazon and #BoycottExoticIndia are trending on Twitter. The company hasn’t commented on the matter yet. We tried to check the painting on the website and it was not visible on Amazon. Possibly, the seller would have taken it down. Well, it should be noted that the painting was sold by Inkologie store on Amazon’s platform. So, technically, the fault is that of the seller and not the platform on which it was put on sale. Notably, Amazon lets sellers from across the country sell their products on the platform and reach more customers, of course after proper background verification.
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), India’s consumer watchdog, recently passed an order against Amazon for allowing the sale of domestic pressure cookers in violation of mandatory standards on its platform. The CCPA has directed Amazon to notify consumers of all 2,265 pressure cookers, and recall and reimburse the prices of such pressure cookers to consumers. The e-commerce platform has also been asked to submit a compliance report in 45 days. Amazon has also been directed to pay a penalty of Rs 1 lakh for allowing the sale of pressure cookers in “violation” to Quality Control Order (QCO) and “violating” the rights of consumers.
