Sharad Pawar said Ratan Tata wanted the project to come up in Maharashtra, and in consultation with him, a 500 acre plot in Nagpur MIDC area was marked for.
Former Union minister Sharad Pawar on Tuesday claimed that the Final Assembly Line (FAL) of Tata Advanced Systems and Airbus in Gujarat was to be set up in Maharashtra, but was shifted at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Ratan Tata wanted the project to come up in Maharashtra, and in consultation with him, a 500 acre plot in Nagpur MIDC area was marked for it,” Mr Pawar said, addressing an election rally in Baramati assembly constituency.
“This was during the Manmohan Singh-led government, of which I was a part,” Mr Pawar said. “Our government changed and when Modi became the PM, he called Tata and told him to set up the factory in Gujarat,” Mr Pawar said.
The NCP (SP) candidates who defeated their NCP rivals included Jitendra Awhad who defeated Najeeb Mulla in Mumbra Kalwa.
Jan Suraaj candidates failed to make a significant impact, finishing third in three constituencies and one in the fourth position.
Police arrested Deepak Max, 20, caught after an encounter by Crime Branch, while Krish Gupta, 18, by local police from the same area.
The prime minister said the Maharashtra election also shows that only one Constitution will work in India and that was given to the people of the country by B R Ambedkar.

This is the third consecutive time that the BJP has emerged as the largest party in Maharashtra, which is undoubtedly a historic feat, Prime Minister Modi said.
