Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the re-introduction of Cheetahs into the Indian wildlife on September 17 in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park. This will be the first intercontinental Cheetah translocation project that has been delayed by years.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on September 17, which is also his birthday, will arrive in the state's Seopur to introduce these Cheetahs translocated from South Africa into the Kunno National Park.
The 'African Cheetah Introduction Project in India' was first conceived in 2009 and a plan was made to introduce the big cat by November last year in the national park. However, the project was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the successive lockdowns, officials said.
