
PM Modi to flag off Pune Metro on March 6

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Pune Metro services on March 6, the services will become operational for the public. Pune Metro is a 12-km stretch of the project with 10 stations.
The commercial operations of the metro rail service in Maharashtra's Pune is set to become operational on March 6 following the inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi is slated to take a ride on the Pune Metro on Sunday from Garware Station to Vanaz to launch operations of the metro rail service.
The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has received a safety clearance certificate from commissioner of metro railway safety (CMRS) to run Pune Metro on a 12 km route from Vanaz to Garware College to PCMC to Phugewadi lines.
MahaMetro, the 50:50 jointly owned Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) between the Centre and Maharashtra government is executing the Pune Metro rail project. According to MahaMetro, the work on the priority stretch has been completed. Both the stretches have 10 stations each.
Pune Metro Phase 1 has two corridors- one from Vanaz to Ramwadi, which is an elevated line. The other corridor is from Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate, which is elevated till the Agriculture College in Shivajinagar and underground after that. Pune Metro is a 12-km stretch of the project with 10 stations.
MahaMetro officers have deployed five rakes on the Vanaz-Garware College and PCMC-Phugewadi stretches for commutation of passengers. The Metro services are slated to start after the inauguration is done by PM Modi for which all the necessary arrangements are in place.
MahaMetro general manager, public relations, Hemanu Sonawane, told TOI that the officials plan to start the services for commuters after the inauguration by PM Modi. The services will open from Monday morning and, initially, there will be trips every half an hour. The daily trips were being planned between 8 am and 9 pm.
