Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Mumbai on Sunday evening to pay his last respects to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away in the morning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his last respects to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar at Mumbai's Shivaji Park on Sunday evening. Bharat Ratna awardee Lata Mangeshkar died at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital earlier on Sunday.
PM Modi paid floral tribute to Lata Mangeshkar at Shivaji Park and performed a parikrama [circle around in reverence] of her mortal remains. The PM expressed his condolences to Lata Mangeshkar's sister and singer Asha Bhosle, and the rest of her family.
PM Modi also met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, who were also present at the venue.

The mortal remains of Lata Mangeshkar were taken from her Pedder Road residence Prabhu Kunj to Shivaji Park, where her last rites will take place today evening. Her body will be kept for the public to pay tribute.
Earlier today, Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92. She had tested positive for coronavirus with mild symptoms and was admitted on January 8 to Breach Candy Hospital's intensive care unit (ICU).
Lata Mangeshkar's condition had improved in January and she was taken off the ventilator but her health deteriorated on Saturday.
