PM Modi explains why Centre changed Covid-19 vaccine policy in May

The Centre modified Covid vaccination policy from May 1, allowing states to procure 25 per cent of vaccines including from global suppliers. States were given the liberty to decide age-eligibility of vaccine beneficiaries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced another change in Covid-19 vaccination policy from June 21. The central government will now procure 75 per cent of all Covid-19 vaccines and allocate them to the states free of cost, PM Modi said. Rest 25 per cent of Covid-19 could be procured by private hospitals for those who want to get inoculated there, PM Modi said. In his televised address, PM Modi explained why Covid-19 vaccination policy was changed in May. He said the centralised Covid-19 vaccination policy was changed due to growing demand for the same from states and campaign by a section of media.
