Just days after her son, Salvador Ramos, stormed an elementary school in Texas, US and killed 21 people, Adriana Martinez pleaded for forgiveness. She said she was sure her late son had his reasons and asked people not to judge him.
After 18-year-old Salvador Ramos shot dead 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde in Texas, US on Tuesday morning, his mother Adriana Martinez pleaded for forgiveness in an interview on Friday.
Speaking to Televisa with tears in her eyes, she said, “Forgive me, forgive my son. I know he had his reasons for doing what he did. Please don’t judge him. I only want the innocent children who died to forgive me.”
When asked what reasons he could have had, she was quoted as saying by The Guardian, “To get closer to those children instead of paying attention to the other bad things, I have no words. I don’t know.”
In a separate interview with the Daily Beast, the gunman’s father said, “I just want people to know I’m sorry, man, [for] what my son did. I never expected my son to do something like that. He should’ve just killed me, you know, instead of doing something like that to someone.”
Ramos’ 42-year-old father was at work when his son stormed into Robb Elementary School on Tuesday morning. When his mother called him to tell him what had happened, the first thing he did was call the local jail to find out if his son was there. However, he was told that “they killed my baby, man”.
Salvador Ramos was shot dead on site by responding officers at the school on Tuesday.
His father said, “I’m never going to see my son again, just like they’re not going to see their kids. And that hurts me.”
